In 1808 , the Royal Family held the Quinta da Boa Vista , the battalions of the Guard chose the big area of São Cristovao for military exercises .
This place , until the early twentieth century were held military parades. In 1960 there was built a large elliptical structure designed to exhibitions.
During many years around the around worked the Northeast Traditional Maket. There was the was the largest cluster of northeastern traditions outside the Northeast . Mayor Cesar Maia decided to enjoy the abandoned area of the Pavilion to host this Market.
There is a statue that honors the great singer from the Northeastern Luiz Gonzaga in the entrance.
